Aether was originally an online text-based roleplaying game (MUSH) that ran from 1998-2002, set in a world rife with magic and a variety of different races, each based on one of the four elements (air, earth, fire, and water) as well as various cultures and mythologies. The game attracted a whole multitude of players from around the world, many of whom added to the game in some way, be it developing cultures and factions, enriching the history, or creating characters intrinsic to the overall plot.
Although the original game closed down in 2002 (followed by a couple of other incarnations), the world has stayed with me, and I've continued developing and expanding it in the hopes of turning it into a cohesive storyline. And since its first incarnation was a collaborative effort, I thought I might attempt a "shared novel," and invite other collaborators to take part. Wiki seemed ideal for such a venture, which is why I've created this Wiki website. Click on some of the following links for more information:
- Aether Website: The original website I put together when envisioning this project, although the focus has since shifted over to this Wiki site.
- Livejournal Community: A place for writing, roleplay, and discussion.
- Wiki Forum: Where I hope to move most of the writing, roleplay, and discussion!
Aether Wiki Pages:
- Magic: A revamped vision of Aether's magic, describing the various abilities characters can have.
- How Magic Works: a breakdown of how magic works (just like it says!)
- Magical Objects: and why they're so important.
- Terms: a few of the newer terms; old ones can still be found on each culture's website.
- Characters: The cast of characters, so far. Click here to see who's who!
- Plotline: An overview of the storyline, so far.
The World of Aether:
Primary Cultures:
The world of Aether is pretty vast, but most of the "action" will take place within these cultures for the initial storyline.
Secondary Cultures:
These cultures are mostly here for "flavor" right now, though they'll likely play a larger role in the scheme of things later on.
